Sunseeker International is pleased to announce our continuing support for the 2017 Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride which will be held on Sunday 2nd July.

For the 12th consecutive year Sunseeker is proud to sponsor the challenge which was started by Peter Smith-Nicholls in 1989, the year after he cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End following the death of his own father from cancer. Just 42 people took part in the very first Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride, raising £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Last year’s bike ride saw Macmillan raise a total of c.£75,000 with Gift Aid and attracted nearly 700 cyclists. Sunseeker Founder, Robert Braithwaite CBE DL made the pledge to Peter during his visit to the London Boat Show.

Robert commented, “We are absolutely delighted to support Macmillan, Peter and his amazing team of supporters who work tirelessly every year to deliver this incredible fund-raising initiative for the benefit of Macmillan Cancer Support in Dorset. I would encourage everyone to get involved in this fun event; they truly deserve our support and your participation will make a real difference.”

Peter added, “We are very grateful to Sunseeker for continuing their lead sponsorship in 2017, it is fantastic to be supported by a world class brand based here in Dorset. Thanks to Sunseeker’s involvement, all of the money we raise can go to where it is needed. We look forward to seeing lots of local people and Sunseeker employees take part in the ride and raise funds to support people living with cancer in the local area.”

The 2017 event has attracted backing from others companies which will make it a great day out for everyone involved. Volunteers from Primera bike shop, Westover Group and Brenscombe Outdoor Centre will all be there on the day to support the riders as they pedal around Dorset.

This year’s event which takes place on 2nd July will offer the full range of distances including, 10, 25, 38, 48, 60 and the challenging 100 miles.

Cyclists can now enter on line and order their 2017 cycling jersey at or call 01202 601705 for entry forms.
