Marine Engineer

ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED

If you are applying to be a Marine Engineer you must have:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*- C to include two at A* - B in maths plus a technology or relevant science subject
  • A strong aptitude for science, maths and problem solving

The training you will receive includes:

  • City and Guilds Level 2 & 3 in Boat Building, Maintenance and Support
  • NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Marine Engineering
  • Functional Skills such as: English, Maths, ICT and Communication
  • Various Sunseeker courses such as: Personal financial management, product technical training and LEAN manufacturing methodology
  • Opportunities exist after successful completion of the four year apprenticeship, to study for an HNC Level 4 in Manufacturing Management and for talented individuals, the opportunity to study for a degree (BEng) with Bournemouth University.

Carpenter (Boat Builder)

ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED

If you are applying to be a Carpenter (Boat Builder) you must have:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*- D to include two at A*- C in maths plus a technology or relevant science subject
  • Have a good eye for attention to detail
  • The mind-set of a perfectionist who will only accept high standards of work
  • Evidence of working with wood, either at school or as a hobby

The training you will receive includes:

  • City and Guilds Level 2 & 3 in Boat Building, Maintenance and Support
  • NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Marine Engineering
  • Functional Skills such as: English, Maths, ICT and Communication
