SUNSEEKER INTERNATIONAL RAISES £56,500 FOR MACMILLAN SINCE ITS PARTNERSHIP LAUNCH
Sunseeker International is delighted to announce that eight months since launching its partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support in Dorset, it has raised £56,500 – enough money to fund a Macmillan Nurse for a year.
Joining together to mark the fantastic fundraising efforts by the Sunseeker workforce, Chrissie Wathen-Neal, Dorset’s Fundraising Manager for Macmillan and Stephanie Jones, Urology Oncology Nurse for Macmillan, met with the Sunseeker Macmillan Champions and Executive Team to celebrate this important milestone. All the funds raised by Sunseeker will go towards supporting people affected by cancer in the local community.
Founded in 1911, Macmillan is the leading cancer care charity in the UK, supporting people of all ages and with all types of cancer, aiming to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with the disease. Macmillan provides local support based on need, and in Dorset there are a range of Macmillan professionals from GPs to nurse specialists, acute oncology nurses, benefits advisers, information leads, and even physical activity projects helping people to become active during and beyond cancer.
Every day, 15 people in Dorset are told they have cancer and figures show the number of people living with the disease is rising. Sunseeker aims to raise as much money as possible for the charity and here’s what amounts raised could help fund:
- As little as £28 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour
- £207 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a day
- £52,420 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a year all helping people living with cancer and their families to receive essential medical, practical and emotional support
Chrissie Wathen-Neal, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan in Dorset said: “It’s great news that Sunseeker has raised this incredible amount of money in such a short period of time. We’ve been working closely with the Macmillan Champions on a variety of events and challenges. The money raised to-date will go towards supporting those in Dorset and it is more than enough to fund a Macmillan Nurse for one year – a fantastic achievement. We would like to thank everyone at Sunseeker for their hard work and we look forward to seeing them continuing the fundraising!”
Phil Popham, Sunseeker’s CEO, said: “We are very proud of all our staff for the extraordinary efforts that have gone into raising these funds, from bake sales and sponsored walks, to half marathons and mud-runs. We will continue to raise money for Macmillan in Dorset and look forward to setting a new fundraising target for this vital charity.”
