This role is primarily focused on the composite structural design, calculations, 3-D modelling and draughting of all composite structures at Sunseeker.  Focus will be on producing mouldings that suit all needs from Classification, Production, Interior Design, Systems and Engineering, Exterior fit-out, Cost, Weight and Surface finish – both by wet-lay or VART (Infusion).

Main Tasks

  • To undertake detailed structural modelling including production drawings for all composite structures including hull, decks, superstructures and integral tanks using either Siemens NX 3-D design software or AutoCAD 2-D as required. Drawings produced will be to a very high standard.

  • Comprehensive and detailed structural design calculations for all composite structures to meet Classification and weight targets. Design must also work in harmony with interior design, machinery, systems and exterior fit-out.

  • Developing and optimising in-house structural design software programs.

  • Lay-out drawings of infusion materials/lines to enable a part to be made by VART

  • Produce accurate moulding weight estimates, bill of materials and costing of all composite parts.

  • Develop new materials and methods to reduce weight / costs and to improve surface finish.

  • Produce detailed and practical composite repair schedules whether for in-house or warranty issues.

  • Communicating with suppliers and helping to develop new materials and production methods.

  • Good communication with production is key and regular visits to the production sites are essential to develop and enhance design for production.

  • Produce full and accurate weight estimates for any boat in the Sunseeker range.

  • Help conduct inclining experiments and occasionally produce Intact and Damage Stability booklets as well as undertake lightship checks for vessels on the water.


The successful candidate should have:

  • A thorough knowledge of composites materials including structural design is essential.

  • A good understanding (including some hands-on practical experience) of composite production in hand-lay, VARTM, RTM and pre-preg.

  • Must be very competent user of both AutoCAD 2-D and 3-D design software as well as an excellent understanding of spreadsheets.

  • Educated to Degree level in Naval Architecture

The main purpose of this role is to act as a team leader and ensure new projects are taken from conceptual stage, through development/prototype stage and into full production within tight time scales.

Main Tasks

  • To be able to lead a small focused design team to enable new models to be designed fully using Siemens NX cad software.

  • To conceive, design and produce production drawings for, various parts and assemblies as required for on new and existing projects, primarily using Siemens NX cad software.

  • To ensure new product parts are designed, (working in liaison with the purchasing and planning departments) numbered and entered into the PLM database.

  • To continually ensure the bill of materials (BOM) is populated with the correct design related parts information both in S-Drive and in SAP.

  • To be able to manage and prioritize multiple projects, from initial conception through to production issue within tight deadlines and with the minimum of supervision using the team they have available.

  • To constantly check and ensure that design information issued by their team is correct before it is submitted to Teamcentre for final sign-off.

  • To be able to communicate ideas and concepts clearly to others involved in the design process, and to liaise well with the development team.

  • To be able to work within pre-determined drawing office structure and protocol, as in CAD standards, data management etc.

  • To work well, develop and lead a small and focused team, whilst ensuring that team has the required support and training to improve its efficiency.

  • To continually strive to develop personal skill and knowledge in all aspects of marine design, to enable future advancement in both personal ability, and future, larger projects.


The successful candidate should have:

  • Experience within the marine industry, in a similar role, is preferred 
  • A qualification in transport/industrial or product design, marine engineering and/or naval architecture would be an advantage
  • Graphic/artistic skills would also be an advantage
  • Computer literacy is a requirement, with a sound knowledge of 3-D design software, Autocad 2D design software and spreadsheet ability preferred.
